One of only fourteen designated Department of Defense University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs) in the nation, ARLIS was established to be a long-term strategic asset for research and development in artificial intelligence, information engineering, and human systems. ARLIS (formerly known as the Center for the Advanced Study of Language, or CASL) is based at the University of Maryland at College Park.
