Athanasios Thomaides, MD, is a cardiac electrophysiologist at MedStar Heart and Vascular Institute. As a cardiac electrophysiologist, Dr Thomaides specializes in heart rhythm disorders. Dr Thomaides performs a broad range of procedures including catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, ventricular tachycardia, and SVT. He implants permanent pacemakers and defibrillators, as well as cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) systems to treat congestive heart failure. He is also an expert and leader at MedStar in laser lead extraction, a procedure that involves removing old pacemaker or defibrillator leads using laser technology.
